Spiritual Life

The heart of our parish life is found in its spirituality, and the expression of this goes through and beyond the daily celebration of the Mass.

A group of parishioners regularly meets for a communal celebration of Morning Prayer of the Church before weekday Masses when these take place in the morning. (In the months of Our Lady, this morning prayer is temporarily replaced by recitation of the Rosary).

Each Wednesday, Morning Mass is preceded by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for half an hour.

Each Friday, Evening Mass is preceded by half an hour's Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, (with the Sacrament of Reconciliation available), and Mass is then followed by Divine Mercy devotions.

A Novena in honour of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour is offered at St Mary's following lunchtime Mass each Saturday, Mass having been preceded by silent adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (with the sacrament of Reconciliation available) and Benediction.

Annually, a Day of Recollection is organised to give parishioners the opportunity for spiritual renewal.

Other Activities and Practical Ministries

The Parish Hope in the Future Committe incorporates our previous Pastoral and Social Outreach Committees and works in line with Bishop John Arnold's diocesan initiative. This group assists with many aspects of parish life and with our missionary outreach into the local community. We also have a parish Finance Committe, and a Social Committee. One of our Safeguarding Reps, Ged (from St Mary's), sits on the Hope in the Future Committee, and can be contacted, (along with our other Safeguarding Reps Tara and Katrina), via the contact page of this website or by email. (See the Parish Newsletter for more details).

We are blessed with several groups and activities running within the parish:

The Wednesday Luncheon Club, in Holy Cross Community Hall at 12 noon each Wednesday, caters for elderly people from within and beyond the parish, (and the food's great!). Further details can be obtained from Margaret or Jean.

The SVP group (Society of St Vincent De Paul) meets approximately fortnightly, as announced, co-ordinating their work in support of the elderly, the sick and the needy. Contact Bob via the Parish Office for more information.

The Legion of Mary meets as announced at St Mary's and exercises a great ministry of prayer and visiting.

From time to time we also put on social activities for our parishioners and friends, to build and celebrate that sense of community which is so important to our identity as a parish family, and as the family of God. We have had Irish nights, quizzes, Race nights and Christmas concerts, to name but a few.

Several parishioners have been trained in the use of the defibrillators which have been installed in Holy Cross (and will soon be added at St Mary's) church for the added safety of our people.
